How to Buy a Laptop

A lot of people are now moving away from buying desktop computers and favor the more portable option: the laptop. Although there are great many who are opting for even smaller devices like smartphones and tablets instead of a computer, for those who need to perform a variety of computer tasks, the laptop is still a better choice.

What is Important?

There are going to be a few important factors when choosing which laptop to buy, namely:

  • The size
  • The features
  • The price

The Screen Size

This often becomes more important when it comes to the laptop then it does when buying a desktop. Generally, a 12.5 to 14-inch screen is the recommended best choice. These are still light enough for the laptop but provide good visuals.

The Specs

The price will often dictate the power of the specs in the laptop. A good quality computer will usually have -at least- a core i5 CPU, plus a screen resolution that averages 1920×1080 and 8GM of Ram. Some feel that SSD storage is a better choice than a hard drive.

Battery Life

Being as the laptop is portable, the battery life is going to be important. Buying one that has the capability of producing eight or more hours of battery operation is a good choice.

The Platform

One challenge when choosing a laptop is which platform to choose. The major choices for these are:

  • Windows
  • Chrome OS
  • Mac OS

For those who are not too familiar with computers, they will often go with Windows, because this is a term they are most familiar with.

Overall Size

Another decision that has to be made is the overall size of the laptop. The size usually refers to the display size, and the most common ones are:

  • 11 to 12 inches
  • 13 to 14 inches
  • 15 inches

The size will also dictate the weight of the unit itself.
